AI is reshaping the way we design courses, engage students, and support learning, especially when students are working on their own. In this one-week, hybrid-format workshop, educators and instructional designers will explore how AI and GenAI tools, including custom GPTs, can enhance content creation, increase student engagement, and support all forms of assessment. Participants will experiment with AI tools, reflect on ethical and pedagogical implications, and create their own AI-supported learning activities or course design resources to share with colleagues. Live sessions, hands-on tasks, and asynchronous options are all included.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
1. Design GenAI-powered activities that expand learning opportunities for your students, especially in moments when they’re working independently or need just-in-time support.
*Design GenAI-powered learning activities that give students timely, personalized support, especially outside of live class time.
*Explore real-world scenarios where custom GPTs can address common student challenges like confusion, feedback gaps, and isolation.
*Share and reflect on student-facing tools that promote deeper engagement, autonomy, and equitable access.
2. Use GenAI tools to streamline your course design and content development, helping you work smarter, save time, and focus more on what matters most: teaching and learning.
*Use GenAI tools to support key design tasks, defining outcomes, sequencing learning experiences, drafting assessments, and generating content.
*Experiment with AI tools as co-designers that save time while enhancing instructional quality and creativity.
*Build and refine your own GenAI-enhanced design artifacts (e.g., GPTs, module maps, formative assessments).
3. Join a growing community of educators, designers, and researchers who are exploring how to use GenAI ethically and creatively to improve education for all learners.
*Engage in thoughtful peer exchange, sharing tools, reflections, and ideas for ethical and strategic GenAI integration.
*Reflect on your professional growth and future direction as an educator working with AI-enhanced practices.
*Participate in a showcase session to exchange feedback and inspire others with your work.
Participants who complete all workshop activities and assignments receive one HyFlex Learning Community achievement badge: Design for Learning with AI. Workshop resources remain available for one year or more after the workshop.
Optional live workshop sessions meet online from 9:00 am - 10:30 am PT (12:00 pm - 1:30 pm ET) on Monday, Oct 13, Wednesday, Oct 15, and Friday, Oct 17. (Three live sessions). All workshop content and activities are also available fully asynchronously, enabling you to learn and participate "anytime, anywhere" for one or more sessions. You get to choose!
After purchasing an enrollment in this workshop, you will receive instructions on accessing the workshop site through email. Contact us at hyflexlearning@gmail.com for bulk order discounts of five or more registrations.
